Vance Reese, Accompanist
Vance Reese, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, studied at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Scarritt College in Nashville, and most recently, Indiana University in Bloomington. A doctor of music since 1997, he studied organ and church music with Larry Smith, Marilyn Keiser, Wilma Jensen, and Robert Anderson. While at IndianaUniversity, Vance served as an opera coach and accompanist with the IU Opera Theater. In Asheville, Mr. Reese works as an organist, a coach/accompanist, a double bass player, a singer (tenor), and a teacher. Currently, he is the organist at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Asheville), Temple Beth Ha-Tephilah (Asheville) and Christ School (Arden). He also plays piano for the Asheville Lyric Opera, plays double bass in the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, has taught music courses at various colleges and recorded for the Biltmore Company.
Vance has acted as the accompanist for the Asheville Symphony Chorus under the direction of Eric Wall and for the UNCA Community Chorus under the direction of Chuck Taft. He served as music director for Mockingbird Theater's production of The Ring of the Fettucines and has sung with the Mountain Madrigals and Mid-Day Musicals.
