Rehearsal Overview

Rehearsals are typically held on Monday nights, in person at the Jewish Community Center at 236 Charlotte Street in Asheville, with a Zoom option for anyone who feels at all under the weather. 

Typical Rehearsals

Regular rehearsals are Monday nights throughout the concert season, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. The expectation is that choristers will attend all rehearsals possible. Anyone missing three or more rehearsals may be asked to withdraw from singing that concert. On occasion, a few extra rehearsals may be offered (usually on Saturday mornings). 

Dress Rehearsals 

Either one or two dress rehearsals are scheduled the week of each concert. These rehearsals are from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and attendance is mandatory. ("Dress" rehearsals do not require concert attire; they indicate the choir is singing in the performance space, with instrumentalists and soloists.) 

Concerts 

Asheville Choral Society presents three concerts each season, each with two performances: one on Friday evening and one on Saturday afternoon. From time to time, there will be additional singing opportunities in the community or in collaboration with other ensembles.

Chorister Costs 

Singers are asked to pay dues of $120 per season and to purchase their music, usually $40-$50 per concert. Financial assistance is occasionally available, depending on a chorister’s circumstances. Full-time undergraduate students are exempt from dues, but are expected to purchase music. ACS's leadership is dedicated to reducing barriers to inclusion, so if a modified or reduced membership payment option would empower you to join us, please contact us at info@ashevillechoralsociety.org. Concert Dress 

Choristers wear full concert black dress, including black long-sleeve tops, pants or floor-length skirt, or a floor-length black dress.

Black Music Folder 

All singers must have their music in order and in solid black folders or binders for all dress rehearsals and performances. If an iPad or tablet is being used, it must be covered in a black case.
